Homemade Pop Tarts
Homemade Pop Tarts
Ingredients:
For the dough:
-
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
-
1 tablespoon sugar
-
1 teaspoon salt
-
1 cup (2 sticks) cold unsalted butter, cubed
-
½ cup ice water (plus more if needed)
For the filling:
-
Your choice! (Jam, Nutella, peanut butter & jelly, fruit preserves, or even sweetened cream cheese)
For the glaze (optional):
-
1 cup powdered sugar
-
2-3 tablespoons milk or water
-
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
-
Sprinkles (optional)
Instructions:
-
Make the dough:
In a large bowl, whisk flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in cold butter until mixture looks like coarse crumbs. Gradually add ice water, stirring until dough forms. If too dry, add a bit more water. Form dough into a disk, wrap in plastic, and chill for at least 1 hour. -
Roll out dough:
On a floured surface, roll dough into a large rectangle about ⅛ inch thick. Cut into rectangles (about 3x4 inches). -
Add filling:
Place a spoonful of your chosen filling in the center of half the rectangles, leaving a small border. Brush edges with a little water. -
Seal pop tarts:
Top with the remaining rectangles. Press edges with a fork to seal. Use a fork to poke a few holes on top for steam to escape. -
Bake:
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Place pop tarts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 20–25 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool. -
Glaze (optional):
Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to make glaze. Drizzle over cooled pop tarts and add sprinkles if you like.
Enjoy warm, fresh homemade pop tarts—way better than store-bought!
