Homemade Pop Tarts

Ingredients:

For the dough:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tablespoon sugar

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) cold unsalted butter, cubed

  • ½ cup ice water (plus more if needed)

For the filling:

  • Your choice! (Jam, Nutella, peanut butter & jelly, fruit preserves, or even sweetened cream cheese)

For the glaze (optional):

  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • 2-3 tablespoons milk or water

  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

  • Sprinkles (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Make the dough:
In a large bowl, whisk flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in cold butter until mixture looks like coarse crumbs. Gradually add ice water, stirring until dough forms. If too dry, add a bit more water. Form dough into a disk, wrap in plastic, and chill for at least 1 hour.

  2. Roll out dough:
On a floured surface, roll dough into a large rectangle about ⅛ inch thick. Cut into rectangles (about 3x4 inches).

  3. Add filling:
Place a spoonful of your chosen filling in the center of half the rectangles, leaving a small border. Brush edges with a little water.

  4. Seal pop tarts:
Top with the remaining rectangles. Press edges with a fork to seal. Use a fork to poke a few holes on top for steam to escape.

  5. Bake:
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Place pop tarts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 20–25 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool.

  6. Glaze (optional):
Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to make glaze. Drizzle over cooled pop tarts and add sprinkles if you like.

Enjoy warm, fresh homemade pop tarts—way better than store-bought!
